On-The-Job Training Money Now Available For Area Businesses

Money is now available for regional businesses to help offset training costs of a new employee. On-the-Job Training (OJT) is a program of the U.S. Department of Labor administered through local Work One offices.  With On-the-Job Training (OJT), employers may be able to cut the cost of hiring and training workers in half.

OJT is customized training designed by each company to meet their unique business needs for occupations in demand within target economic sectors.  The training period is at least 30 days but not more than six months in duration. OJT reimburses directly to employers a portion of the trainee’s gross wages for the duration of the training period.  Trainee wages may also qualify for the new HIRE federal tax credit.

Employers can be reimbursed for up to 50% of the wages (minimum wage of $10.00/hour) of unemployed workers who have been displaced/laid off from their jobs. Work One will help find eligible candidates for open positions and will match qualified candidates with approved job openings through the REACH (Regional Employment Assessment Center for Hiring) centers in Lafayette or Kokomo.

Businesses who are ready to hire should consider OJT. The REACH Center staff is available to meet with interested employers to explain details of the program. Contact REACH in Kokomo at 765-854-1401 or in Lafayette at 765-477-1906.
